What query fan-out means for your pages
When someone asks AI Mode, ChatGPT or Perplexity a question, the system rarely searches for that exact phrase. It splits the question into related searches: the cost, the process, the alternatives, the local options, the risks. Google has said AI Mode uses this query fan-out technique, running many related searches at once and combining what it finds into one answer.
A page that ranks for the head term but skips the sub-questions gives the AI very little to cite. Pages that answer the fan-out plainly, with the right facts in the right places, are the ones that get pulled into the answer.

Query fan-out questions
What is query fan-out?
It is how AI search engines answer a question: they break it into many related searches, run them at the same time, and combine the results. The sub-queries cover cost, process, comparisons, local options and follow-up questions the person did not type.
Where do these sub-queries come from?
They are generated in your browser from search patterns we see across our client work in legal, immigration, med spa, home services and other local industries. They are a planning model, not live data from Google, so validate the important ones with Search Console, People Also Ask and the AI tools themselves.
How is this different from keyword research?
Keyword research tells you which phrases get searched. Fan-out planning tells you which questions an AI answer needs to cover, many of which have little measurable search volume but still decide which source gets cited.
Should one page cover every sub-query?
No. Your main page should cover the rewrites, hidden questions, trust signals and next steps. Sub-topics with commercial intent, like a specific case type or treatment, usually deserve their own pages linked from the main one.
Does covering the fan-out guarantee AI citations?
No tool can guarantee that. Covering the fan-out with accurate, specific answers makes your page a much stronger candidate, especially when combined with clean entity schema, strong reviews and consistent business information.
